| ELK BEND RESPONDS TO IRON CREEK FIRE
APRIL 12, 2010: High winds in the Elk Bend area created problems with a controlled burn for one of the residents near the Iron Creek Bridge. Sparks began to blow over to some hay stacks on Jan Phillips' property, north of the bridge. About twenty firefighters responded to the call for help to get the fire under control and several stayed on until late evening to mop up and keep watch to make sure that it didn't start burning again. Some hay was lost, but no one was injured and, once again, we can say "Thank You" to our firefighters for a job well done!
"I would like to thank all of the firefighters who responded to the fire at the Iron Creek Bridge on Monday, April 12, 2010.
If not for your quick response, my family could have lost everything in that fire. I appreciate all of the hard work and dedication of everyone involved.

ELK BEND FIRE PROTECTION REORGANIZES
The Elk Bend Fire Protection District has recently reorganized including the appointment of two new commissioners, completing the compliment of three commissioners for the fire district. Joining an existing Commissioner Alvin Bailey of Unit 3 and 4, are Clara Evarts of Unit 1 and William Youngstrom of Unit 2. Evarts was voted Chairman of the board. Also taking the spot as division officers are Fire Chief Bill Freeman of Unit 2, Safety Director Doug Golden of Unit 1, Communications Director Lu Dene Casper of Unit 1, and Logistics Director J.P. Pendleton of Unit 1. "The Elk Bend Fire Protection District has taken on an enthusiastic resurgence of community support," said Secretary Karen Jacobs. "Under the direction of the new Board of Directors and Fire Chief, a commitment to the reorganization of values, goals and training is paramount." The firefighting crews now have weekly hands-on training. The fire fighters have a compliment of 26, with six traffic directors and five communications people. "We had a meeting with Idaho State Fire Marshall Mark Larson, who toured the District's needs," said Jacobs. "He was very instrumental in clarifying the responsibilities of the commissioners and the fire chief." "We are a volunteer district and in need of a great deal of equipment that is either worn out, or we just do not have," Jacobs said. "Larson has put out an S.O.S. for our district on a statewide basis for safety equipment, trucks, fire fighting clothes, etc. We have received some response within one day of the [reorganization] announcement. Hopefully, we will be able to obtain what we need to go forward."
